Radon testing is a home inspection service provided by Certified Home
Inspection, MA and CT licensed inspectors. This information summarizes the cause and effect.
Radon gas is the number one environmental hazard and number two cause of lung
cancer.
Trace amounts
of uranium are found in all our planet's soil.
A radioactive gas is
formed in the ground from the decay of uranium.
Fortunately, most of the gas remains in the ground and the small percentage that
makes it to the surface is diluted in the atmosphere, however high levels of
radon gas can accumulate in some structures. The percentage of gas that reaches
the surface or building is dependant on the amount of uranium in the ground and
how easily the gas can move through the soil.
The radon gas
that reaches the building foundation is drawn in by pressure differences as
cracks & penetrations are found in all structures. All structures are unique as
is their piece of the ground. Two adjacent properties can have totally different
radon levels.
Measurement is the
only means to determine the level. The measurement options are short or long
term. The 2-7 days measured by
the short
term captures a quick look at the radon levels. The 3-12 months of long term
reveal the actual living conditions by also including the
differences factored by seasonal changes. Both measurements are simple
procedures and the results can be viewed by our clients through the link below.
Lung cancer is the heath risk associated with high levels of radon gas. Radon is
the #2 cause of lung cancer in the world. Radon testing and lowering levels can
avoid the
risk of
lung cancer.
Radon problems are easily corrected
in one day
for the
average home.
