After deciding on an antique home, my wife and I knew that we needed a skilled inspector with a unique passion for older homes and uncompromising attention to historical detail. Mark's inspection was so thorough, and his knowledge of antique home construction and history so complete, that we cannot recommend him highly enough for your home inspection. Home inspections fun? We found out that they can be that and a whole lot more with Mark Forkey of Certified Home Inspection Corp. Even though we have used the company in the past, this was our first time working with Mark. During the inspection, it was quite apparent that he enjoyed his work immensely and as a result, made the whole experience enjoyable for us, the home buyers.

The dreadful possibility of an unexpected discovery of a myriad of nightmares, especially with a house nearing 250 years old, was eased with Mark’s sense of humor and vast knowledge of antiques. Did you know that cellars back then were not meant to be water tight? Did you also realize that chestnut wood was referred to as “iron wood” due to its strength? How about the fact that the mushrooms that carpenter ants feed on in their nests promotes dry rot? Well, neither did we… until that morning! Armed with countless pockets filled with investigating tools, he appeared to be a modern day Sherlock Holmes in search of home invaders of a different sort.

After the inspection was complete, we walked away with a precise report detailing a manageable list of things to do, a homeowners manual along with sage advice on maintenance procedures once we take ownership of the house. Before we arrived home, a complete display of photos supporting the inspection report were sent via email. Efficiency of that sort seems to be a rarity nowadays.

We especially liked the fact that Mark considers his clients lifelong customers and welcomes questions and offers help at any point in the future. So not only does it feel like we learned all there is to know about our new house, we also feel like we gained a friend.

When we think of how much time you spent on our house, the fee becomes negligible. Especially when compared to the size of the investment one makes in a home, your inspection was the best assurance we could have gotten.

We also want to thank you for preventing us from making a costly mistake in purchasing another home several years ago. Again, your detailed inspection was second to none. You pointed out several structural issues with the property we were considering, and instructed us to consult with a structural engineer before moving ahead with making an offer. When the sellers refused to let us do that, we thankfully passed on that home. What was not visible to our naked eyes was instantly discovered by your thorough inspection.

We had purchased a home seven years ago and we did have it inspected, unfortunately not by you. When we say that there was a significant difference in the reports and the thoroughness, we are being kind to the other inspector. Let’s just say, we had a few surprises…and expenses.

In April of this year I had a home inspection done prior to purchasing my home in West Boylston. As this home is an old (c 1919) house I was looking for a thorough inspection.The inspection was done by Mr. Mark Forkey. We spent four and one half hours going through the home from top to bottom. I have a considerable knowledge of house construction but I was still impressed with Mr. Forkey’s thoroughness and his depth of knowledge. I also found him to be both pleasant and very informative.

It has all been such a great education for me, and your notes, photos and manual were a huge help.

Thank you very much for the spectacular job done on the home inspection. It really opened our eyes with respect to the home and likely will save us much money in the long run.

We checked with our Insurance Agent and, as you suggested, insurability is a major issue. The home in its current state with the Knob & Tube Wiring will run several thousand dollars per year. To be eligible for the significantly lower standard rate based on an updated electrical system , the home must not only have the Knob & Tube deactivated, but all of the knob & tube wiring must be completely removed from the home. Obviously this becomes a major financial undertaking and something that we are turning towards the buyers with.

I'll let you know how things turn out; but without the home inspection and your wonderful lessons on the operating systems of the home, this is an issue that would have been our responsibility in a matter of a few weeks. If the deal falls through; we will continue our search and you will be the first person we call to inspect the next property. Thanks again Mark!
